When making a journal entry you can memorize the transaction by using CTRL + M.  You will then be prompted to create a transaction name, add it to a reminder list or automate the transaction on a regular frequency.  You can also specify the frequency of the recurring transaction.  A great journal entry to try this with would be a recurring monthly accrual with the same amount for the entire year.  Give CTRL + M a try and let us know what you think,

Another Common mistake we see is posting transactions to prior accounting periods.  To prevent this from happening you can set a closing date that is password protected.  To enable the closing date tool go to Company/Set Closing Date.  A new window will appear, at the bottom of this window there is a Set Date/Password box.  After you click on this box a new window will appear and you can now set your closing date and protect this date with a password.  Be sure to check back often for more helpful QuickBooks tips.

One of the most common mistakes we see with small businesses is the entering of loan payments into QuickBooks.  The most common mistake is not breaking out the interest and principal portions of the payments.  Did you know that QuickBooks has a loan manager to solve this issue?  Click Banking at the top of the screen, select loan manager and click Add a Loan.  You will be prompted for the specifics of the loan.

When closing QuickBooks make sure and close all the open windows.  QuickBooks will open all the windows the next time that were open when QuickBooks was last closed.  The fewer window to open the faster QuickBooks will open.
